Meet the
pallas's cat.
Pallas's cats occur at naturally low densities and rely on rocky cover or burrows. Habitat change, prey control campaigns and incidental trapping can affect local populations.

Appearance
Dense pale-grey fur, a broad flattened-looking face, low-set rounded ears and a thick ringed tail create a deceptively heavy appearance.

Behaviour
Solitary and secretive, sheltering in rock crevices or abandoned burrows and hunting mainly around dawn, dusk and night.

Diet
Feeds heavily on pikas and other small mammals, with birds and insects also taken.

Habitat
Cold steppe, semi-desert, rocky slopes and high-elevation grassland with little deep snow.

Distribution
Patchily distributed across Central Asia from the Caucasus region toward Mongolia and western China.
