Meet the
snow leopard.
Snow leopards live at low densities across vast mountain systems. Monitoring is difficult, and conservation depends on connected landscapes and coexistence with pastoral communities.

Appearance
A pale, smoky-grey cat with dark open rosettes, small rounded ears, broad paws and an exceptionally long, thick tail.

Behaviour
Solitary and elusive, travelling along ridgelines, cliffs and valleys. It uses scent marks and scrapes at prominent landscape features.

Diet
Hunts mountain ungulates such as wild sheep and goats, as well as marmots and other smaller animals.

Habitat
Alpine and subalpine terrain, rocky slopes, cliffs and high-elevation steppe.

Distribution
Distributed across mountain ranges of Central and South Asia in a broad, discontinuous arc.
